The Sanskrit word Asana means "Posture". Silence of Body, Mind and breath are all attained by having a correct posture. The posture or asana has to be at ease enabling the body and mind to be in harmony, steady and joyful.
Prana means life force and Ayama means ascension, expansion and extension. Thus it is the expansion of life force through the control of breath. By regulating the holy breath enables to bring in balance, and enables the gateway to freedom.
Dhyana or meditation is deep concentration. Practicing Asana, with proper pranayama naturally lends to a meditativeness. To be in Silence and completely surrender to the Silence is quite natural.
The best freedom one can experience is when they are completely mindful and aware of their actions, surroundings, thoughts and mind. Proper practice of Asana and Pranayama helps in bringing a person to a state of mindfulness.
